A slew of rankings shows the Pittsburgh Steelers #1 but Pro Football Focus begs to disagree and it’s all because of one players, Ben Roethlisberger.
On the PFF NFL podcast, co-host Sam Monson says Big Ben is what is keeping Pittsburgh from the top spot, even though they’re undefeated through 7 games.
“It’s the quarterback,” said Monson. “Ben Roethlisberger is a marked degree below the best quarterbacks of all the other teams whether it’s (Patrick) Mahomes, even Lamar Jackson I know they beat the Ravens last week, Tom Brady.”
PFF has Roethlisberger ranked the 16th best quarterback in the league.
“You are not the best team in football if you have the 16th ranked quarterback in the NFL, case closed, the end,” said Monson.
PFF has the Kansas City Chiefs at #1, followed by the Baltimore Ravens (still), Tampa Bay 3rd and finally the Steelers are 4th.
Through seven undefeated games, Roethlisberger hasn’t been perfect but has completed 67.9 of his attempts for 1,628 yards and 15 touchdowns. He has thrown four interceptions but an argument can be made that at least two of them are not his fault.
Roethlisberger and the Steelers head to Dallas to take on whatever 4th string quarterback they put in and the Cowboys on Sunday.
