Pickens bails on kids' football camp, Freiermuth takes over

Tight end Pat Freiermuth is coming to the rescue after a former Steelers wide receiver cancelled an appearance at a youth camp.

George Pickens has backed out of a football camp appearance this Saturday at Highmark Stadium near Station Square.

TrueEdge Sports, organizers of the event, said in a statement they confirmed that Pickens would still appear, even after he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys.

Last week, TrueEdge says they were told that Pickens would no longer attend the sold-out camp named after him.

It looked like a lot of kids were going to be disappointed, but that’s when Freiermuth said he would take the camp over.

The move by the Steelers tight end and Penn State alum is another example of Freiermuth being a stand-up guy, Joe’s producer “City Limits” said.

Joe Starkey says its one last example of the mistake the Steelers made drafting him.

When everyone was passing on the talented Pickens, it was the Steelers that thought they could change him.

“This is the guy, a guy who walks out on his teammates, a guy who walks out on kids and families at a camp,” said Starkey. “This is the guy they drafted. This is the guy Mike Tomlin drafted.”
