Pirates DFA Michael A. Taylor and Rowdy Tellez

Infielder Liover Peguero and outfielder Joshua Palacios recalled

With six games left in the season, the Pirates are looking toward 2025.

On Tuesday, the team announced that both first baseman Rowdy Tellez and outfielder Michael A. Taylor have been designated for assignment.

In a corresponding move, the Pirates recalled infielder Liover Peguero and outfielder Joshua Palacios from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Tellez struggled the first couple months of the season, but improved and was contributing while the Pirates were still in contention this summer.

He was batting .243 with 56 RBI, 13 home runs and an OPS of .691.

Taylor, known primarily for his defense, was batting .193 with 21 RBI, five home runs and an OPS of .543.

Both Taylor and Tellez were on one-year deals.

Peguero was with the Pirates for four days in early June but did not play in a game during that time.

The 23-year-old was batting .257 in Indy with 79 RBI, 13 home runs and an OPS of .729.

Palacios is also going into his second stint with Pittsburgh this season. He was recalled on the Fourth of July before he was placed on the injured list on July 31 with a left hamstring issue.

In 61 at-bats, Palacios was batting .230 in Pittsburgh with seven RBI, 14 hits, two home runs and an OPS of .663.

The Pirates have 38 men on their 40-man roster going into the final home series of the season.

They play three against the Milwaukee Brewers before heading to Yankee Stadium for three in New York to finish the season.
