The 1-1 Panthers are 22nd this week following the overtime loss to the Vols, while 2-0 Penn State is 21st. The Nittany Lions beat Ohio University 46-10 on Saturday after also getting a Thursday night opening win, at Purdue.
Georgia regained the top spot from Alabama after the Crimson Tide needed a late field goal to win at unranked Texas. Ohio State is third followed by Michigan, Clemson, Oklahoma, USC, Oklahoma State, Kentucky and Arkansas.
Michigan State is 11th, Miami 13, Tennessee 15, NC State 16, Wake Forest 19 among the other notables. Panthers are at Western Michigan Saturday night. Penn State is at Auburn Saturday at 3:30.
