PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy said earlier in the week that receiver Michael Pittman, Junior could miss a couple of weeks and they were determining roster options. Pittman placed on injured reserve with a foot injury along with a couple of other moves before the game with the Colts.
After being acquired in March, Pittman suffered an injury that wiped out a lot of his training camp and was able to get back late and play in the first game before suffering a different foot injury. Pittman was signed to be a veteran number two receiver for DK Metcalf, but has only seven receptions for 89 yards.
Taking Pittman’s roster spot is defensive back Doneiko Slaughter, who was called up to the active roster from the practice squad each of the first three games of the season. Slaughter was added to the active roster and played against the Browns as well.
Steelers are also elevated running back Lew Nichols and receiver Brandon Smith from the practice squad for the Indianapolis game. It’s Nichols third straight game being recalled.
Smith played with Aaron Rodgers with the Jets and was with the team in training camp. It’s his first activation of the season.
