Unable to trade him, the Jacksonville Jaguars released Leonard Fournette and the PM Team says it if the Steelers added him, he would instantly be the best running back on the team.
Andrew Fillipponi says Fournette is a feature back and that is the kind of running back that Coach Tomlin wants.
Poni adds the Steelers can afford him.
“If the Steelers think Fournette is better than Conner (he is) and can fit his $4 million cap hit under the cap (they can), what is the argument against signing him? The Browns cut Joe Haden and that's worked out OK for the Steelers.”
Fournette has over 600 carries since 2017.
Poni adds that Conner continues to be a liability at running back.
“You cannot have a James Conner conversation without every time you have to put the if he’s health caveat on it and I’m sick of having to do that at a running back position where Mike Tomlin doesn’t want to use three or four guys,” added Poni.
“He can run. He can catch. He doesn’t get injured every year. And he’ll be motived. To get paid,” said Poni.
“Hate to just echo @ThePoniExpress, but he's right about Fournette. Better than anyone on Steelers' roster. No one's trying to slag James Conner, but the fact is that he had a grand total of 19 carries after Week 8 last season,” said Chris Mueller.
Fournette has played in 36 games with 666 touches for 2,631 yards, and 17 touchdowns. He also has 134 career receptions for 1,009 yards and two TDs.
The Jaguars don’t appear to be much of a threat in 2020 and once source said that Fournette was a “pain in the ass” to work with.
While Fournette ran for over 1,000 in two seasons, he has a disappointing 4.0 yards per carry and also has injury issues of his own.
