We’ll never get to see the combination of DK Metcalf and George Pickens after the former was traded to the Dallas Cowboys.
Joe Starkey called the move a “classic case of addition by subtraction.”
While Pickens has had several instances of distracting behavior, including getting into a verbal argument with fans in the stands and arriving to a game over 30 minutes late on Christmas Day, his ability to take over a game was too tempting for some.
The Steelers appear to be in the same situation they were with their wide receivers last year with DK Metcalf and then, no true number two.
Bob Pompeani thinks another move is coming and if Metcalf gets injured, they’ll be “naked” and Pickens added a “layer of protection.”
That’s why Pomp doesn’t like the Steelers moving on from Pickens.
“I was banking on the fact that at some point he would mature . . . because one year, money dangling, carrot out there, here you go,” said Pompeani.
Pomp said he thought the Steelers were “banking on that” because 2025 is Pickens’ one chance to get paid.
Now, he’ll have a chance to earn his next big contract with the Cowboys.
Starkey says the thought that Pickens’ behavior will be different this season is “crazy.”
