A source inside the NFL tells 93.7 The Fan’s Andrew Fillipponi the Steelers are targeting one of the top corners in free agency this season.

The Steelers are reportedly going to go after Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis.

Poni says the Bucs are high on him and the only reason they didn’t put the franchise tag on Davis is because of wide receiver Chris Godwin.

“but it was not an open-shut black and white thing and they are now aware that if he goes into free agency, he’s gone and if the Steelers had it their way this is the players they’d get,” said Poni.

Poni adds his source tells him the Steelers will make a “serious offer” to Davis.

Co-host Chris Mueller says that would likely cost the Steelers around $20 million.

Davis has six interceptions in his four-year career with 207 total tackles.

Poni adds that the Steelers will look to re-sign safety Terrell Edmunds after they did not pick up his fifth-year option last year. Edmunds was set to make $6.7 million this coming season and Poni adds the offer the Steelers have given is a team-friendly deal.

In addition, Poni says that former Pitt safety Jordan Whitehead is on the Steelers’ radar and if he doesn’t re-sign with the Bucs Pittsburgh will look to get him.
