According to his agent, Steelers quarterback Josh Dobbs in coming back to Pittsburgh on a one-year deal.
Agent Mike McCartney made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.
It’s an interesting move considering there was talk of the Steelers possibly drafting a quarterback at some point in the draft.
The organization also has brought starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger back for at least one more year
Along with Mason Rudolph in the quarterback’s room, former Washington first round pick Dwayne Haskins signed a non-roster contract with the team in the offseason.
Beyond the fact that he majored in aerospace engineering in the honors program and added a minor in business at the University Tennessee. He also held a Zoom call with astronauts in the International Space Station. Dobbs plays football as well.
Mike Tomlin allowed Dobbs to do what he did in college in his only action last season in the season finale against Cleveland, rushing for a couple of times for 20 yards and a first down.
Dobbs appeared in 6 career games with the Steelers, 10 of 17 for 45 yards, no TD, INT and a rating of 39.1.
So with so many quarterbacks, why bring him back?
Dobbs value may be as big on the practice squad as it is on a game field. Dobbs can simulate mobile QB and now understands enough about offenses to help out during games.
But the Steelers likely won’t carry four quarterbacks and with Ben QB1 and Mason QB2 it looks like there will be competition in training camp for that last back-up spot.
