PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Ben Roethlisberger said when he came into the locker room after win over the Eagles; he was concerned. How would JuJu Smith-Schuster respond to Chase Claypool having a historic game as a Steelers rookie receiver?
"I looked over at JuJu to kind see what his reaction, because he's our number one receiver, and he had the biggest smile on his face," Roethlisberger said. "He was having fun with other guys."
Imagine this happening a couple of years ago if JuJu had a four touchdown game and Ben looked over at Antonio Brown.
"I can't say enough about him and what that meant to me," Roethlisberger said. "What that meant to other guys and how proud we are of him that he was truly happy for Chase. He was happy that we won the game."
"Did he have huge stats; no. But we won the game and that's all that matters."
Roethlisberger never mentioned Brown by name, but I don't think I'm taking a leap here. I'm also not saying it would be that smooth if it continues every week, but you can hear in what Roethlisberger said, it's a welcome change from the very successful, yet drama-filled run of Antonio Brown.
"I think for a number one receiver to feel that way in the locker room, I told my wife about it. I told my closest friends about it. That just made me real proud and made me happy that we have selfless guys on this team that are more about the win than they are about trying to get their stats."
"I can't say enough about JuJu and about what that meant after the game."
