National media believes signing Wilson is the right move for Steelers

The national media is reacting to the Russell Wilson agreeing to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

ESPN's Dan Orlovsky called Wilson joining the Steelers an "ideal situation."

"I'm very aware that Russell Wilson comes with a lot of conversation about the person or the leader or the aura about him," said Orlovsky. "Mike Tomlin's capable of leading the team through the midst of that."

Orlovsky says if Wilson can play like he did last season, he can see the Steelers winning a playoffs game.

"He was a top 10 to top 12 quarterback without much help, he's got (George) Pickens, Diontae Johnson, (Pat) Freiermuth, an improved offensive line" and two running backs in Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren.

Orlovsky adds the Steelers weren't going to get anyone in the draft, picking 20th overall and Wilson is only getting paid $1.2 million by Pittsburgh on his one-year deal.

Good Morning Football's Kyle Brandt says that Wilson "hit the Powerball" coming to Pittsburgh.

Brandt says Wilson will be the likely starter and will get to play in another playoff game, this time with the Steelers.

"I think it's a win," said Brandt.

Wilson threw more touchdowns last season compared to any Steelers quarterback combined in the past two years.

Brandt also talked about the small salary the Steelers are paying for Wilson.

"I feel like the Steelers have a gift card in the NFL and they're just going to swipe it for Russell Wilson because why not, someone else is paying for this really expensive thing that I get to enjoy," said Brandt.

Brandt added if Wilson ends up not being a good player or "weird" the Steelers don't lose anything.
