It's no secret that Robert Spillane is not Devin Bush. The Steelers traded up to get Bush with the 10th overall pick last season.
Spillane was an undrafted free agent out of Western Michigan in the MAC conference.
Bush did not miss a defensive snap from his first game up until he tore his ACL last Sunday against the Browns.
Spillane made his first NFL start on Sunday against his former team, the Tennessee Titans.
But Spillane was the man you wanted in the game to stop Titans superstar running back Derek Henry.
With Tennessee on the door step, with a 3rd and goal in the fourth quarter, the Steelers were hanging on to a 10-point lead.
Henry got the call running right up the middle and was absolutely stopped in his tracked by Spillane, who injured his shoulder delivering the devastating tackle.
Devin Bush doesn't make that play. That doesn't mean Spillane is better than Bush, but he was the perfect guy for that particular situation.
While the Titans would score after a Minkah Fitzpatrick holding call would give Tennessee another set of downs, it doesn't take away from Spillane's statement play.
"They're on the one-yard line, they got a 250 pound running back, there's no going slow into the hole, so I took all my force with me and T.J.
(Watt) was there to help as well and we were able to bring him down," Spillane said after the game.
"I know he played winning ball," said coach Mike Tomlin after the game.
Spillane played well with 3 total tackles in the Steelers 27-24 win.
