PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – The legal tampering period ends most of the breaking news aspect of the start of NFL free agency. Here are the new members of the Pittsburgh Steelers as the new NFL season officially begins on Wednesday.

QB-Mitch Trubisky                        2-years, $14.5 mill w incentives up to $27 million

It's not the biggest name among the quarterbacks, but it may be the best contract of any free agent QB contract in 2022.  He was the second overall pick in 2017 and still in his mid-20s.  The money allows you to sign other players and the term allows you to draft a quarterback in 2022 if the one you like is still available.

G/C-James Daniels                        3-years, $26.5 million

Rated by Pro Football Focus as the fourth best free agent guard and was 19th best among all NFL guard last season.  PFF also ranked him as the 43rd best free agent overall above Jameis Winston, Myles Jack and others.  He is just 24-years-old and while likely a guard, provides the position flexibility Mike Tomlin covets.  He has the size to not get pushed around at 6'4", 327-pounds.

C/G-Mason Cole                            3-years, $15.75 million

A third-round pick of the Cardinals and started every game his rookie season at center.  Traded to the Vikings before the 2021 season, Cole, 25,  started seven games at center or right guard before an elbow injury ended his season.  He is also a big body at 6'5", 298-pounds and provides options for a second-year offensive coordinator and first-year offensive line coach.

CB-Levi Wallace                             2-years, $8 million

This seems to be the biggest reach in free agency, which normally comes with being the cheapest contract.  Wallace, 26, the 145th best player available in free agency according to PFF-Joe Haden ranked 119 and Ahkello Witherspoon 133.  He's maybe 6-feet tall, 179-pounds with 219 tackles and six interceptions in four seasons with the Bills, starting 52 of the 52 NFL games he's played.  He was a walk-on who worked his way up to Second Team All-SEC as a senior.

ILB-Myles Jack                               2-years, $16 million

An early second round pick of the Jaguars in 2016, Jack started 15 games for Jacksonville last season with 108 tackles, three tackles for loss and a pair of quarterback hits.  The knock against Jack is inconsistency, but his athleticism is unquestioned.  He had a big playoff game against the Steelers in 2017 with an interception, pass defensed and a tackle for loss in the Jags upset win at Heinz Field.  The 26-year-old has started 82 career games with 513 tackles, 15 passes defended, three interceptions and four fumble recoveries.
