PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It’s the team whose assistants are being swarmed by franchises looking for head coaches. Minutes after it was reported the Steelers wanted to talk to Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, it was also reported by ESPN that they wanted to have an interview with defensive coordinator Chris Shula to be the next Steelers head coach.

The grandson of Hall of Fame head coach Don Shula, Chris is in his second season as the Rams defensive coordinator after moving up from an assistant linebackers coach in 2017 through a series of jobs to defensive coordinator in 2024. He worked as current Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey’s position coach when he finished second in the NFL with 18 passes defensed and third in pass breakups (12).

A three-year graduate assistant at Indiana and a one-year defensive coordinator at John Carroll (2014), Shula started in the NFL with the Chargers in 2105. Shula was also a teammate of Rams head coach Sean McVay at Miami, Ohio.
