The Steelers won’t be adding Christian Kirk to their wide receiver room.
The Jaguars are trading Kirk to the Houston Texans for a 7th round pick.
But, the Texans will pick up the Kirk’s full contract for this year, $16.5 million and a $16.23 cap hit.
As 93.7 The Fan’s Andrew Fillipponi points out, the Texans are getting Kirk for one season, at $16.5 million, since he is going into the last year of current deal.
While only giving up a 7th round pick for Kirk seems like steal, Fillipponi and Chris Mueller say for the amount of money they would be paying, it’s not worth it.
It’s not worth it because Kirk is a slot receiver and the Steelers need an outside receiver.
Kirk is better than Calvin Austin III but not worth the money.
“Where’s the fit in the offense,” asked Mueller. “If you’re going to line him up in the slot, when you want to go three-wide, you’re going to be putting, presumably Calvin Austin . . . somebody is going to be placed somewhere where they are not comfortable playing.”
