Steelers Notes-Warren historic, Muth 2x, Rodgers-Big Ben tied

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Jaylen Warren became the first player since Herschel Walker in 1986 to have an 80-yard touchdown reception and 50-yard touchdown run in the same game as the Steelers beat the Colts Sunday 34-22 at Acrisure Stadium.

Warren rushed 15 times for 101 yards with 6 receptions for 87 yards.


Here are some of the big moments as the Steelers improve to 3-2.

Big run

The play after Pat Freiermuth got a first down on a tight end sneak on a fourth an one, Jaylen Warren took a handoff cut briefly left and then shot up the middle, breaking one tackle and leading the rest of the Colts defense in the dust for a 50-yard touchdown run to give the Steelers a 24-16 lead midway through the third quarter.

Pain and splash

Following a Colts 57-yard field goal, Aaron Rodgers from the shotgun, just before a defensive lineman bust through and hammered Rodgers to the ground, he got it to his outlet Warren at the line of scrimmage, turned upfield, broke a tackle about 15 yards in and went 80 yards down the right sideline for a touchdown. Receiver DK Metcalf providing blocking help the entire way to make it 7-3 Steelers.

Rodgers & Big Ben NFL history together

The 80-yard pass to Warren was the ninth touchdown Rodgers has thrown in his career of at least 80 yards. That ties the NFL record, with Ben Roethlisberger.

Big drive

After another crazy long field goal, Steelers overcame a holding penalty to drive 80 yards on 12 plays benefitting from a pass interference penalty in the end zone on Charvarius Ward against Metcalf to put the ball at the one-yard line. Rodgers hit Pat Freiermuth for a TD.

It was the 25th touchdown reception in Freiermuth’s career, tying him with another Penn Stater, Kyle Brady.

Not finished

Freiermuth wasn’t done, finishing off a fourth quarter, 10-play, 5:07 drive of 64 yards with his second TD of the game on a crossing route of 17 yards on 3rd and 6 for his 26th career touchdown, one shy of Penn Stater Mike Gesicki as the Steelers took a 31-22 lead.

Little Taylor

Last year the Steelers held Jonathan Taylor to 45 yards rushing and two receptions for 12 yards, on Sunday another 45-yard performance with three receptions for 37 yards.

207 yards of FG

It included 57 and 56 yard makes, Spencer Shrader went 5 for 5 on field goals which totaled 207 yards worth of field goals. The other makes were 26, 40 and 28 yards.

Here I come Peyton

Rodgers finished 22-31 for 235 yards and 3 TD. The 42-year-old is two touchdowns shy of Peyton Manning for third place on the NFL all-time regular-season passing touchdown list
