PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Can’t think of a time that it’s happened recently where the entire Steelers quarterback room is without a contract for next season. A year after bringing in three new quarterbacks, and again losing in the first round of the playoffs, Mike Tomlin assessed their situation.

Tomlin called it ‘a really good experience’ having Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and Kyle Allen on the roster this year. They are open to any or all of those three returning next year. He praised Fields and Wilson for their professionalism and relationship with the game, while not mentioning either players’ on-field abilities. Asked directly about Fields, Tomlin said he brought urgency to his work and improved as the season continued.

Tomlin said they will have what he deemed ‘major discussions’ involving all candidates.

“Starts first and foremost with understanding what our options are,” Tomlin said Tuesday. “What the field looks like in terms of free agency? What the draft pool looks like?”

Those talks begin with GM Omar Khan this week in what he said would be a half-a-day conversation.

Since the start of the 2021 season, the Steelers have had six different starting quarterbacks. Given their lack of playoff success, he isn’t surprised about having these types of issues involving the QBs.
