Steelers promote DL, sign running back and receiver

2 on the active roster and one goes to the practice squad

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Looking to sure up a defense giving up a lot of yards rushing, the Steelers promoted defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko from the practice squad to the active roster and also added a running back and receiver.

RB Godwin Igwebuike

The forward Northwestern standout has played 30 games in the NFL, all 17 with Detroit in 2021 with 118 yards rushing and goes straight to the active roster. His most productive game came against the Steelers in the 2021, 10-10 tie with two carries, 56 yards and his only NFL touchdown. The 6’, 212-pounder almost exclusively been a special teams player in his career that along with the Lions, includes San Francisco, Tampa Bay, Seattle and Atlanta.

WR Duece Watts

Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Packers, Watts had 85 catches for 1,500 yards, 17.6 average and 17 touchdowns. He’s 6’2”, 195 pounds and lands on the Steelers practice squad.

DL Breiden Fehoko

One of the last cuts in training camp, Fehoko signed on the practice squad waiting for an opportunity which comes now. At 6’2”, 295 pounds, Fehoko has played 19 NFL games, starting four with the Chargers for the last three seasons with 36 tackles, including one for loss.

“It is one of the only places that cares about nose tackles,” Fehoko said of staying with the Steelers. “They care about physical football, it’s the AFC North. Talking with Coach Tomlin and Omar (Khan) after cut day, I wanted to be here. This is a place a want to grow in. This is a place a want to be a part of long term. I love it here. I love the culture here and love everything about this place.”
