LATROBE, PA (93.7 The Fan) – Signed to a futures contract in the offseason, corner Kalon Barnes was released on Monday with an injury designation.
Barnes was on the Steelers practice squad last year before being released in September, hooking up with the Jets and then signing with Cleveland for a week in January. The 25-year-old was the Carolina Panthers seventh round pick in 2022 and wound up playing two games with the Vikings in 2022.
He played in 33 defensive snaps, fifth most of any Steelers defensive player in the preseason opener against Houston. Barnes ended up with a pair of tackles (one on special teams) and had a pass defended. Steelers didn't announce a corresponding move to fill that roster spot.
