PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – During the game on Sunday, CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson reported that Joey Porter, Junior had been cleared from his back injury and another report he’s already seeking a second opinion. What the Steelers said about it on Monday?
“Joey’s in the situation where he had a back thing that flared up in practice,” said Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy. “We are taking a look at it. He’ll be evaluated on Wednesday to see what he can do come practice on Wednesday.”
McCarthy clarified that Porter, Junior is in ‘the Wednesday work-up group’ and someone they will prepare for practice.
Porter, Junior was cleared of the back injury that kept him out of the entire training camp and preseason. The opening game against Atlanta, Porter, Junior was initially listed as not playing due to the back injury and then it was explained as an error and that it was because he wasn’t ramped up to play and was McCarthy’s decision not to play.
Against New England, Porter, Junior was ruled out on Friday due to a back injury which re-occurred on Thursday during individual drills.
Sunday the Steelers host the 2-0 Bengals with JaMarr Chase, Tee Higgins, Joe Burrow and more. Steelers defensive coordinator Patrick Graham said he hasn’t finalized a plan, but admits it would look a little different if Porter, Junior is playing or not.
McCarthy would say to a similar question.
“That’s an outstanding offense,” McCarthy said. “It’s a division game. It has our attention.”
Porter, Junior has created a lot of attention. Will see how that plays out this week.
