
PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Shedeur Sanders was there, but the Steelers went running back with the 83rd overall pick in the draft. Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson, who has been compared to former Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell.
Johnson, 6’1”, 224 pounds, did a pre-draft visit with the Steelers after rushing for 1,537 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2024 earning him the Ameche-Dayne Big 10 Running Back of the Year Award along with being Walter Camp First-Team All-American. Along with his rushing numbers, he’s also known as a good blocker.
He ranks sixth in Iowa history with 2,779 rushing yards on 508 carries. He has 12, 100-plus yard games and his 30 touchdowns are fourth in Iowa history.
Johnson will join a backfield with Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell, each under one-year contracts.
