PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Interesting to see how this plays with keeping Joe Haden ($15.575 million cap hit, 8.757 in dead cap) and Steven Nelson ($14.42 million cap hit, $6.17 in dead cap). Steelers signed corner Cam Sutton to a two-year, nine million dollar contract according to the NFL Network.
This also greatly puts in question the future of free agent corner Mike Hilton. Reports several teams, including the Eagles, are high on the four-year veteran. In just 20 NFL starts and 59 games overall, Hilton has 7 career interceptions and 5 career fumble recoveries.
Sutton just turned 26 and was a third round pick of the Steelers in 2017. He gets a substantial raise from the $825,000 he made in 2020. The 5'11" corner has just 8 career NFL starts, but 6 last year with an interception, 27 solo tackles and 3 forced fumbles for the Steelers in 2020.
He is the biggest name free agent to sign back with the Steelers. Sutton's signing likely this still leaves the Steelers a couple of million dollars of room under the cap before free agency begins at 4p on Wednesday.
