Steelers were embarrassing, so was Steeler Nation

The Steeler faithful that was on hand at Acrisure Stadium for team's first game of the season and first Week One game at home in eight years, saw one of the worst performances by a Steelers' team in recent memory.

The team's play, in every facet, was embarrassing. It was also embarrassing in the stands.

It's predicted maybe 20,000 of the fans in the stands were in 49er red and gold.

While the team was being dominated on the field, dejected Steeler fans were silent while you could hear San Francisco fans chanting.

At the end of the game a see of empty yellow seats were interrupted by large pockets of red, Niner fans still there, enjoying a convincing win.

That's not how it supposed to go. Steeler Nation travels to places like Jacksonville or Los Angeles and they take over the opponent's stadium.

But on Sunday, it was the other way around and it was embarrassing.

One of the reasons could be the large number of 49ers fans in the Youngtown, Ohio area. That's because native Edward DeBartolo used to own the 49ers.

But still, Cleveland and Baltimore fans don't take over the stadium when the Browns and Ravens come to town.

So, it appears a large number of people sold their tickets to San Francisco fans and made themselves some money.

It's hard to argue with someone that wanted to make a little money and didn't feel like driving down to the North Shore and then paying hundreds of dollars to park, eat, drink and buy souvenirs.

Heck, I'd likely do the same, but can you call yourself the best fanbase in the league when you don't show up?

But it wasn't a good look. All the way around, it was a bad day for the Steelers and their fans.

Luckily, it's just one game…for now.
