PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Contacted early by North Carolina to see what his interest would be in becoming its next head coach, Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith said Thursday it’s ‘awesome’ Bill Belichick is now a college head coach.
“He’s a teacher of the game and he’s got a lot of wisdom and that should carry over,” Smith said. “I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to go learn the game of football from him. Like any great coach he’s a teacher first and still really a student.”
The announcement was made on Wednesday that Belichick would get his first college head coaching job at North Carolina where Smith not only was a player, but a graduate assistant.
“It’s great for the whole game of football,” Smith said. “I’m fired up for the university and I’m sure he will do a really good job.”
