PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – For Jaylen Warren it’s a simple mindset for how he plays his best in a game. Warren rushed 17 times for 127 yards and caught 3 passes for 49 yards in the Steelers 30-27 win over Cincinnati Sunday.
“When I’m playing backyard football I’m doing my best,” Warren said.
“Jaylen Warren was dynamic, absolutely dynamic,” said quarterback Aaron Rodgers. “Jaylen is so slippery back there. First guy rarely brings him down. He actually brings himself down more than the first guy.”
Rodgers paused slightly with a smile.
“He’s such a man of smaller stature. Sometimes he can get lost back there, but he’s so quick, and the first guy never brings him down. He was actually a really good inside, between-the-tackles runner.”
Rodgers then also noted that Warren was limited this week with a shoulder injury, so much so, he couldn’t throw him the ball in practice on Saturday because of it.
“Huge,” McCarthy said. “He was the focal point. You guys are at practice, and you can see how he was limited in certain things. He came up big. He was huge today for us.”
Explosive plays key Steelers win over Cincinnati
Warren is not one to point the spotlight on himself, never has been. An undrafted free agent who watches as every year the Steelers bring in another veteran running back to challenge him. Sunday was his first opportunity to be the guys this season, and he may not have started if not for the injury to Rico Dowdle.
When he got on the field, he made the most of it. Again.
It was Warren’s first 100-yard game since December 21 last year at Detroit, when he also carried the Steelers offense with 14 rushes for 143 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Belief message helps Steelers offense
If you are looking for a promoter, that’s not Warren, but what he showed on Sunday is his endless effort that helped the Steelers offense awaken.
