Arthur Smith hasn’t even been officially announced as the Steelers new offensive coordinator yet, but has been taking a beating from fans and commentators.

But CBS NFL insider Aditi Kinkhabwala tells The PM Team that Smith is the “right hire” for the Steelers.

“He just fits the mindset of what the Steelers are, what they’re looking to do,” said Kinkhabwala.

So, what makes smith the right guy? According to Aditi

1.     Mike Tomlin wanted someone with experience

2.     Tomlin has had success with established guys like Todd Haley, Dick LeBeau, Mike Munchak and more

3.     Tomlin hasn’t developed any up and comers himself

4.     Smith will provide discipline and structure to an offense that needs it

“Arthur Smith has enough internal confidence to deal with a recalcitrant wide receiver, somebody that doesn’t want to block, somebody that doesn’t want to show up to meetings . . . he’s not going to stand for that,” said Kinkhabwala.

Tomlin is more of a player’s coach and not known for his discipline.

“You can sit here and say that you want Art Rooney to completely rip up the identify of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the Pittsburgh Steelers play football a certain way and Arthur Smith will be able to do that,” added Kinkhabwala.

That doesn’t mean that he won’t be able to adjust. believes he’ll be able to do that too.
