PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He played the entire first half and took a couple of big hits, especially late, after the game Steelers quarterback Will Howard was unable to speak with reporters because he was being evaluated for a possible head injury.

The Steelers had no other information on the potential severity or even if it was confirmed to be anything that would keep him out long term or affect his roster spot.

Howard went 9 of 15 Thursday night for 69 yards, a pair of touchdowns and an interception McCarthy said was a miscommunication.

Asked after the game if all four quarterbacks earned a roster spot?

“I think that’s very accurate evaluation on your part,” McCarthy said. “I feel good about the quarterback room. I’ve been saying it for quite some time. I think they’ve shown it on the field. We’ve got two veterans we can win with and we got two young guys we are really excited about their future.”

Last year Howard spent the first part of the season on injured reserve with a thumb injury. NFL mandates rosters are set by 6p on Sunday.

Rodgers, others don’t make trip

It’s rare, even in the final preseason game, when veterans not playing don’t even make the trip, but that was the case for Aaron Rodgers, Cam Heyward, TJ Watt and others not traveling to Buffalo.

“We had a list of guys that didn’t travel and that was based off things they were dealing with all through camp,” McCarthy said. “They were working with the trainers. The guys that stayed back were all for rehab. Those guys all worked today back there.”

“Those guys all had something. That’s the process I’ve always done. If they’re not going to play in the game and they have something they can gain from a rehab workout, sports science tells you to leave them at home.”

There was no update on receiver/special teamer Ben Skowronek who left in the first quarter with an undisclosed, appeared to be upper body, injury.
