The Astros' pitching rotation was just dealt a massive blow.

Justin Verlander, the Astros' ace, has been diagnosed with a forearm strain and will miss at least two weeks, according to manager Dusty Baker.

The Houston Chronicle reported Sunday that Verlander would miss the rest of the season.
Verlander disputed the report on Twitter, saying he's hopeful that with some rest it will heal and he'll be able to return soon.

The report that I’m currently missing the rest of the season is not accurate. There is a forearm strain... I’m hopeful that with some rest it will heal and I’ll be able to return soon. Thank you for all the well wishes. ----

When asked after the game, Astros manager Dusty Baker would not say whether Verlander will pitch again this season. The official diagnosis is a forearm strain, which will shut Verlander down for at least two weeks, Baker said.

The team's medical staff will evaluate him again after two weeks.

Verlander just pitched Opening Day for the Astros, going six innings and giving up just two runs. The injury happened early in the game, when Verlander mentioned to Baker that his arm was tender.

The injury means Houston loses its best pitcher, while already trying to fortify its rotation.

Jose Urquidy, who was projected to be the No. 4 starter, missed all of summer camp and is training in Corpus Christi.

Verlander seemed healthy after undergoing groin surgery in March. He also suffered a lat injury during spring training.

Lance McCullers Jr. presumably moves to the top of the Astros' rotation.
