New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees had further tests done Monday on the rib injury he suffered in his team’s 27-13 win against the San Francisco 49ers Sunday and according to a report from ESPN’s Ed Werder, the NFL’s all-time leading passer has multiple rib fractures and a collapsed lung on the right side.

Werder reports that Brees has five broken ribs and that the injuries happened over the last two weeks. He added that the Saints are uncertain how much time Brees will miss.

Brees was able to finish the first half of Sunday’s game despite feeling “terrible” following a hard hit in the second quarter of the matchup. He told reporters he planned to play the second half but was unable too.

“When I came out in the second half and started throwing the ball it became really apparent that I wasn’t going to be effective,” Brees said Sunday following the win.

Brees finshed the game 8-of-13 for 76 yards and a touchdown and said then he was unsure of how the injury would affect him moving forward

“It’s just a matter of how long it’s going to be,” he said. “And honestly, I really, I really don't know. It's not something quite to this extent that I've experienced. Like I said, I'm just going to take it one day at a time.”

Backup quarterback Jameis Winston took over for Brees and went 6-of-10 for 63 yards as he helped seal the victory.
