Add another one for the City of Champions.
93.7 The Fan has been named the LARGE MARKET STATION OF THE YEAR at the 2025 NAB Marconi Radio Awards.
The Marconi Awards are essentially the Oscars for the radio business.
“First and foremost, the Marconi award Is the highest honor in the radio business and The Fan is beyond humbled to be honored by the NAB,” said Senior Vice President and Market Manager for Audacy Pittsburgh, Michael Spacciapolli.
The Fan is Pittsburgh’s premier sports radio station and has become a vital part of the community in its 16 years on the air.
“I said in my acceptance speech Tuesday night, Not only is it true that The Fan is an incredible radio station, in an incredible city but 93.7 The Fan has become more than a radio station to this incredible sports town,” said Spacciapolli. “The Fan is able to touch and impact lives through our community service and that’s what a Marconi truly recognizes.”
Through the Audacy Pittsburgh “Feed the Need” campaign to the Fan’s “5-Alarm Marathon” (raising money for local volunteer fire departments) and “For the W.I.N.” campaign (supporting the Pittsburgh Women’s Shelter), along with being active in youth baseball, softball and football, The Fan knows how important it is to give back to the community.
“The people of Pittsburgh love their sports teams, but they also love their community and 93.7 The Fan has become part of their community and what impacts their day-to-day lives,” added Spacciapolli.
The Fan wouldn’t be able to do what it does without partnerships with Pitt Athletics and the Pittsburgh Pirates. They’re deeply rooted in the fabric of the Pittsburgh community and play a huge role in what has become the Fan brand.
And last but not least, The Fan couldn’t do what it does without top talent.
“Thank you to the staff,” said Spacciapolli. “None of this happens without an incredible staff. They’re so deserving of this and it’s just so meaningful for them to be recognized with an award at the highest level.”
What’s even more remarkable, The Fan is the second Audacy Pittsburgh station to win a Marconi in as many years.
Last year, 100.1 and AM 1020 KDKA Radio won the News/Talk Station of the Year award.
“To have back-to-back Marconi winners is beyond belief and Audacy Pittsburgh incredibly grateful for the honor again this year,” said Spacciapolli.
Named after Guglielmo Marconi, the inventor of the radio and a Nobel Prize winner, the Marconi Awards began in 1989.
The Fan was nominated, alongside the premier stations from across the country for this legendary award that is voted on by the Marconi Radio Awards Selection Academy.
