Fan Morning Show co-host Colin Dunlap says he doesn’t whether to laugh or cry after watching a viral video that has amassed nearly 16 million views on social media.
The video features young children, about 8 to 10-years-old or so, are playing basketball with over-the-top celebrations when one of the kids makes a basket.
One kid can be seen dancing on the side lines, another does a big flex after making a basket while fouled, another puts up a three symbol after draining one.
The kids in the highlights can defiantly play, but co-host Dorin Dickerson says he has a problem with it.
“It’s over-the-top and it’s not kids being kids because this is being allowed,” said Dickerson saying that parents and coaches need to step up. “They’re way to do things and they’re ways to show sportsmanship, this is way over-the-top.”
Dickerson adds he saw a bunch of other athletes calling the video “ridiculous.”
Co-host Chris Mack says from his perspective, it’s a learning moment for the opposing teams.
Mack says sometimes you get owned on the court or the field and the other team lets you know about it. It’s about learning how to deal with that in the moment.
“I love it, it’s awesome to me,” producer Adam Crowley said. “I think the parents need to straighten it out a little bit but they’re just having fun.”
Crowley adds the kids are just doing what college and NBA players do and it’s up the parents to do something.
Dickerson says he agrees it’s up to the parents but when it comes down to it, he calls it taunting.
Dickerson adds he has too much respect for sports and that’s not the way to teach it.
Dunlap responded by saying if you want the kids to stop the over-the-top celebrations, don’t let them score.
