Steelers gave Falcons blueprint trade package for Trey Hendrickson

The Morning Shift explains why the Steelers trade package for DK Metcalf could be very similar to what the Falcons give the Bengals for Trey Hendrickson

Over the past couple of days rumors have surfaced that the Cincinnati Bengals want a first round pick and more in exchange for star defensive end Trey Hendrickson, and while Mike Johnson believes giving up a first round pick for Hendrickson and then having to give him a big contract extension is “hard to stomach” he does think giving up something similar to what the Pittsburgh Steelers gave up for star receiver DK Metcalf is very doable.

“I would say if you are going to get exactly what happened with DK Metcalf, sign me up 10 times out of 10. I think I would be able to do that.” Mike said

The Seahawks traded DK Metcalf to the Steelers in exchange for a second-round pick, number 52 overall and a sixth-round pick, number 185 overall, to Pittsburgh and the Steelers got back a seventh-rounder, number 223 as part of the deal. Metcalf also agreed to a five-year, $150 million extension with the Steelers with an AAV at $30 million.

Now, the Falcons don’t have a sixth round pick, but they could give the Bengals both of their seventh round picks. When Khalil Mack was traded from the Bears to the Chargers all it took was a second round pick, and Mack was also under contract and didn’t the lucrative extension that Hendrickson does now, so you would like to think that would get the deal done, but at this point it might take some time to show no teams are going to give Cincinnati a first round pick for Hendrickson before the Bengals come down on their asking price.

The Falcons have all the resources they need to pull off a trade for Trey Hendrickson, and they’ve been relatively quiet over the past couple of days when it comes to free agent signings, so maybe General Manager has something big in the works and maybe that something is trading for the four time Pro Bowler and first team All-Pro in Trey Hendrickson.
