PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Last time the US Open was at Oakmont Country Club, among the former major champions in contention was Adam Scott. What the Aussie said about the key in 2025?

Scott is playing at the Memorial Tournament this week and after a 79 on the first round, fought back and shot a 69 Friday on the par 72 course. He believes how he played in Columbus the last two days should assist him in two weeks.

“Believe it or not, this is good mental prep for it,” Scott said Friday. “You can get slapped around a little here and then you are kind of used to it. It could be good.”

The now 44-year-old was four shots off the lead heading into the weekend back in 2016 at Oakmont. It was only a 39 on the back nine as part of a 76 in the final round that ended his chance for a US Open title.

Where Scott struggled at the Memorial Tournament is where he must improve at Oakmont Country Club. He said you have to hit it in the fairway. If you don’t, you have no chance.

“It’s really hard to recover on any hole if you are not in the fairway,” Scott said. “You are not advancing it far enough to feel good about getting it in in the next couple of shots.”

“It’s one step and a time at Oakmont. You got to get it in the fairway and then under the hole.”

Scott said Oakmont Country Club is a course so good, you don’t have to trick it up and he hopes the USGA doesn’t. He said he reckons they could give it a month to prepare and they could hold a major tournament and it would be great. He then stopped himself, laughed, and said that would probably be offensive to the Club. They would just need a few days.

He really does understand Oakmont Country Club and its membership. They pride themselves at always being at championship condition. The rough is deep and the greens are ‘treacherous’.

“They almost like being infamous,” Scott said.

You could take the ‘almost’ out of that statement.
