PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pens head coach Mike Sullivan announced Tristan Jarry would return from an upper body injury to start at the Rangers Tuesday night.
Jarry left after the first period of the home game against the Islanders on March 29 and returned to practice a couple of days later. Jarry has gone full the last pair of practices including Monday in Cranberry Township.
Tied for fifth in the NHL with 15 wins on the season, the 25-year-old has a .910 save percentage and 2.79 goals against average in his fifth season in the NHL.
Blueger close but not ready
While Teddy Blueger has also practiced full the last two workouts, the center will not return against the Rangers on Tuesday. Blueger hasn’t played since March 15 and said Monday that he still is working on his conditioning as he rotated on the fourth line in practice.
Three recalled from Taxi Squad
Pens recalled a trio of forwards from the taxi squad before Tuesday’s game with the Rangers.
Frederick Gaudreau didn’t actually miss time with the team even though he was designated. Gaudreau practiced with the Pens Monday and has played in nine games with a goal and three assists and been a fixture on the penalty kill.
“He’s strong defensively,” Sullivan said of Gaudreau. “He’s won some faceoffs for us. He’s really helped us in a lot of capacities. I love his competitiveness. He’s just a real competitive guy that’s playing the game with a lot of urgency. I think that type of play is contagious.”
Radium Zohorna returns having only played a pair of games in late March, including scoring a goal in his first NHL game March 25 against the Sabres. The 6’6”, 24-year-old Zohorna had 11 points in 12 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Drew O’Connor has played in 10 games this year, only one in March and before that a string of games in February. The 6’3”, 22-year-old has one assist and is a minus two plus/minus with the Pens. O’Connor has eight points in eight games in the AHL this season.
