The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to a contract extension with offensive tackle Brian O'Neil. The team made the announcement on the $92.5 million contract Wednesday, and O'Neill confirmed that the extension was for five years in a press conference.
The 62nd overall draft pick from 2018 was in the final year of his rookie contract. He has appeared in 46 career games, starting in 42 of them. He won the starting right tackle job in the middle of his first season and has not looked back.
In mid-August, O'Neill talked about his mindset coming into the 2021-22 season.
"I mean, people might ask me a couple more questions here or there, but I really don't think [my role] has [changed]," O'Neill shared. "I try to be the same guy every day this year as I have been the last couple years. Try to be myself, and hopefully that energy and attention to detail attracts guys and they want to come along."
In late May, he talked about his hopes to stay in Minnesota long-term.
"I want to be here. I want to be here long-term; I love it here," O'Neill said. "Nothing would make me happier than to be here long term."
