So I’m all for good sportsmanship and respect for your opponent when it comes to sports, but I feel like we’ve gone too far with some of the praise some teams get from outside of their fan base.
The Eagles beat the San Francisco 49ers 31-7 on Sunday to advance to the Super Bowl.
Of course people in Philadelphia are going to celebrate, but some other good luck wishes are coming from some strange places.
Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey tweeted “Congratulations Eagles – Pennsylvania is headed to the Super Bowl #FlyEaglesFly.”
What the hell is he talking about? I can assure you a large majority of Steelers fans don’t give a damn that a team from Pennsylvania is going to the Super Bowl.
Sure, you can have love for your home state, but when it comes to the NFL, this isn’t a “yay, PA” moment.
Even worse was what was done at the Empire State Building in New York City.
The top of the building was lit up in green and white in honor of the Eagles making to the Super Bowl.
The PHILADELPHIA Eagles being celebrated in New York. The New York Giants are even in their division, the NFC West.
Imagine a building in Pittsburgh lighting up purple and black for Baltimore or orange and black for the Bengals!
The Empire State Building also was lit up for a time in red and white in honor of the AFC Champion Chiefs… Once again, at team that is over 1,200 miles away from New York.
For me, this is a no-win Super Bowl. I don’t want to see either team win. I was hoping for the Bills to make it with everything that went on with Damar Hamlin.
Next the Steelers make it deep in the playoffs, don’t expect the mayor of Philadelphia to praise Pennsylvania.
