Kelly Clarkson flexed her alt-pop singing talents performing a cover of Ashe’s hit song “Moral Of The Story,” during Wednesday’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show.
The intimate performance featured her house band with backup vocals. Kelly sang the emotional ballad while isolating at home due to the coronavirus pandemic. Clarkson’s take on the popular hit diverges from the conversational pace that Ashe applied to the 2019 hit. Kelly provides a smooth flow between the melody and words, drawing a more somber meaning to the song.
“Moral Of The Story” brings all the star power from a new alternative music scene. Five-time GRAMMY Winner FINNEAS co-wrote and co-produced the track, while Billie Eilish added an un-credited lyrical contribution. The song has also become an empathetic social meme on TikTok. According to the social platform, it’s been used more than 900,000 for videos since June.
This summer, Clarkson has been lending her voice to numerous covers of popular songs during her "Kellyoke" segment. One day after the Dixie Chicks dropped the “Dixie” from the band’s name, Clarkson chose to sing one of their classic hits during her show. She also brought raw emotion to Miley Cryus’ hit track “The Climb.”
