Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has given fans an update regarding the band’s canceled performances in the U.K. and Germany last week.

Taking the stage in Barcelona, Spain over the weekend after being forced to cancel dates in London and Berlin the week prior, frontman Eddie Vedder told fans that a few members of the Pearl Jam crew had a nasty and “frightening” health scare.
“Last week, it almost felt like a near-death experience,” Vedder told the Barcelona crowd during their encore on Saturday, July 6. “It was very uncomfortable, and it got frightening. It felt like chest bronchitis… like maybe you couldn’t breathe, and maybe you wouldn’t make it through the night, and maybe you’d have to go to the hospital.”

Vedder explained how the bug infected “a few of us,” adding, “you just realize how precious this life is. How lucky we are to have been living on a planet where we can go around and play to incredible people like the people in this room here tonight. So, it was a poignant experience. I won’t be forgetting it anytime soon. And we won’t be forgetting tonight anytime soon.”
Pearl Jam is currently overseas touring in celebration of their 12th studio album, Dark Matter, with more shows scheduled for the U.S. in August and September. Tickets are available HERE.
