You can’t just become the Mayor of Flavortown- you have to work for it.
Guy Fieri, who went viral in December after sharing that he would rather “die broke” than leave his business and fortune to his children without two postgraduate degrees under their belts, has doubled down on his philosophy.
The Food Network host initially said that he adheres to the Shaquille O’Neal school of thought: “‘If you want this cheese, you got to get two degrees.’ Well, my two degrees mean, you know, postgraduate.”
Fieri continued, explaining that his father said something similar to him when he was growing up. “‘When I die, you can expect that I’m going to die broke, and you’re going to be paying for the funeral,’” Fieri shared that his dad told him. “And I told my boys, ‘None of this that we’ve been… that I’ve been building are you going to get unless you come take it from me.’”
Fieri told Entertainment Tonight that he believes that his sons Ryder and Hunter, as well as his nephew Jules, whom he has raised since his sister’s death in 2011, are well on their way towards earning their inheritance.
“Jules was in the law program at Loyola Marymount, Ryder's graduating high school, Hunter's in the master's program at the University of Miami. I told them, if these guys want it, they gotta give me two degrees. Two post-grad and then they can go after it. But they're gonna run this show. I will be out folks,” said Fieri.
