Maggie McKay talks with Emmy award-winning actor Joe Morton ("Scandal," Brother from Another Planet, Netflix's "The Politician," Justice League), who plays King Lear at The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts this month. This version is a radical reinvention of Shakespeare's classic. It focuses on family dynamics including nonbinary and gender-fluid characters, and is a timeless tale of truth, love, and power, with some redemption. It is directed by John Gould Rubin who says"By immersing the audience in a future of looming environmental apocalypse, where identity is fluid, and salvation can only be found through self-knowledge, our King Lear confronts us with a looming apocalypse which is the America - indeed the world - we must strive to avoid." You'll also find out why (if you attend) you are encouraged to wear light-colored clothing.
