Another woman has come forward to file a lawsuit against Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson on Tuesday, bringing the total of civil cases accusing him of sexual misconduct to 23, according to a USA Today report.
The most recent lawsuit alleges three encounters with Watson, the third being the worst where Watson is accused of exposing himself to the woman, touching her between her legs and repeatedly requesting she have sex with him.
The accuser said she was reluctant to come forward initially but changed her mind after watching a segment about the case on HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” last week, per USA Today.
Watson's attorney, Rusty Hardin, issued a vehement denial in a statement:
“Deshaun Watson vehemently denies the allegations, just as he has since she first discussed them with members of our firm in March of last year,” Hardin said. “She repeated the allegations on social media in August and he denied them then. The only thing new about her contentions is the embellishment making them more extreme than prior versions. Deshaun’s denial remains the same.”
Watson, who has not been criminally charged, has denied any wrongdoing from the very start when allegations first began to surface in March 2021.
There has not yet been a settlement in the civil cases while the NFL is also conducting its own independent investigation of Watson and whether or not he violated the league’s personal conduct policy.
The USA Today report notes that the latest lawsuit could complicate any plan for the NFL to reach a resolution with Watson prior to the season.
The 26-year-old did not play last season or the Houston Texans and was traded to the Cleveland Browns earlier this year, where he inked a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed contract.
What kind of discipline he receives before he takes the field for the Browns remains to be seen.
