HACIENDA HEIGHTS, Calif. (KNX) — A man investigators alleged threatened to commit arson was hospitalized Friday after being shot by one or more Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies in the Hacienda Heights area, following a pursuit.

Deputies attached to Industry Station were called shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Friday to the 14000 block of Crystal Lantern Drive near Orange Grove Middle School regarding a possible arson suspect. Deputies learned that the suspect allegedly threatening to burn down a residence was a family member who did not live there.

Upon arrival, deputies learned the suspect, who was parked in a vehicle, was threatening to douse the home with a bottle of gasoline and set it ablaze. When they approached the suspect, he fled in his vehicle, deputies said.

The suspect returned to the residence after a short pursuit. There, he jumped out of his vehicle, ran to the side of the residence near a garage area, wielding what deputies described as a sharp, pointed, metal weapon in his hand and yelling unintelligibly.

Deputies said they gave the suspect several verbal commands to drop the weapon. When he refused and allegedly approached the deputies while still holding the weapon, they opened fire.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital, where he was since reported to be in stable condition. No deputies were injured in connection with the incident.
