LOS ANGELES (KNX) - Hundreds of ushers, janitors, security officers, and other workers at Dodger Stadium might go on strike next month amid ongoing contract negotiations.
The employees, who are unionized with SEIU USWW, protested outside the stadium before the Dodgers’ game against the New York Yankees on Saturday, demanding better wages and working conditions.
The union has been negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement with the Dodgers since November, union officials say. Their last contract expired earlier this year.
The workers are asking for a 43% wage increase over the next five years, and higher employer contributions to healthcare.
“When you look at inflation, you look at the profitability of this organization, the cost of living … these workers understand that this is a moment for them, to be able to negotiate what they consider what they need to be able to survive in this city,” SEIU USWW President David Huerta told the Los Angeles Times.
Both sides are set to return to the negotiating table on Friday. If an agreement isn’t reached, the union could call a strike authorization vote by June 17, FOX 11 reports. A strike could begin as early as July 3.
