CalFire landed more than a half dozen military planes from the federal government Thursday.

The seven C130 planes were promised to CalFire more than five years ago as a transfer from the Coast Guard, but the delivery was delayed until a provision in this year’s defense spending bill allowed California to receive the planes.

“We performed all of the necessary modifications to the aircraft to get them prepared for aerial firefighting operations for the great state of California,” said Tim Huber, with CalFire.

Each plane can carry up to 4,000 gallons of retardant.
