Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire at a one- story residence and were able to protect nearby threatened buildings Friday in Mar Vista.

Fire crews responded to the fire at 2:23 a.m. at a house on S. Mclaughlin Ave. between Venice Boulevard and Washington Place, where they found the home engulfed in flames and quickly deployed hose lines for an interior attack, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange.

Other firefighters used ladders to perform ventilation on the rooftop to allow smoke and highly heated gases to escape and make it more survivable for fire crews below, Prange added.
