Travelers at LAX brave delays and cancellations following winter storm in U.S.

LOS ANGELES (KNX) - With Christmas Day just a couple days away, many Angelenos are flocking to Los Angeles International Airport to spend the holiday with family.

Some holiday travelers were welcomed with delays and flight cancellations at LAX Friday morning thanks to a winter storm hitting the central area of the United States, as well as the East Coast.

As of 8:45 a.m. Friday, there were 85 flight cancellations and 149 flight delays at LAX, according to City News Service.

One traveler heading to London to see her family told KNX News’ Jon Baird said she has a five-hour layover in New York.

“I’ve been so worried the whole week because I know we’ll be stopping in New York before we get to the U.K., but I’m happy because my parents, everyone is waiting for us,” she said.

LAX wasn’t the only airport seeing flights cancellations and delays. City News Service reported that as of 7 a.m., three flights were canceled and 10 flights delayed at Long Beach Airport, 12 flights canceled and six flights delayed at Hollywood Burbank Airport, 33 flights canceled and 22 flights delayed at John Wayne Airport in Orange County and 12 flights canceled and 13 flights delayed at Ontario International Airport.

Those planning to drive will also face their fair share of issues as well. According to AAA, the worst times to be on the will be between 4 and 7 p.m.; however, the best time will be before 2 p.m. and after 8 p.m.
