Pelosi’s spokesperson, Drew Hammill, said the congresswoman from San Francisco tested negative for the virus earlier this week.

Pelosi’s positive test is the latest in a string of COVID diagnoses for a number of government officials in D.C. and Los Angeles. On Wednesday, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo tested positive for the virus, as did L.A. City Attorney Mike Feuer.

Pelosi, the top House Democrat, is 82 year old. As Speaker of the House, she is second in the line of presidential succession behind Vice President Kamala Harris. Pelosi reportedly stood next to President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama at a White House event on Tuesday.

Pelosi is vaccinated and boosted. A planned congressional delegation to Asia led by the congresswoman would be postponed, however, Hammilll said.
