SAN MARINO, Calif. (KNX) – The Huntington Rose Garden Tea Room will reopen to the public on May 24.
The space closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and then went through an 18-month renovation, which began in 2021, according to a press release.
Renovations included the restoration of the original 1911 building, as well as the addition of a new outdoor dining area.
Karen Lawrence, president of the Huntington Library Art Museum and Botanical Gardens, told KNX News the room is historic and beloved.
“Everybody remembers it as a special spot where memories were created and relationships and milestones were celebrated,” she said.
Project architect Stephen Farnes told KNX News it’s rewarding to work on a project where there’s history involved.
“We’ve done some other projects here at the Huntington and I feel like this is in keeping with how we understand the institution’s wishes to develop wishes to grow in a very incremental, thoughtful way, preserving the underlying elements of Henry Huntington at the same time, making great new spaces that people can use,” he said.
Reservations can be made starting May 10 through OpenTable.
