Long lines of Mexico fans surrounded the L.A. Memorial Coliseum on Thursday for the first game of the World Cup: Mexico vs. South Africa.
They were waiting to enter the FIFA Fan Festival, a celebration for football and culture with live broadcasts, food vendors, music and more, according to their site.
KNX News’ Jon Baird spoke to Mexico fans attending the event.
“My parents are immigrants and they worked their way up, so we love that everyone is showing up and showing love in the city of Los Angeles,” one fan said. “The Latino community is all coming together today, so it is amazing to see everyone get united today.”
Many fans Baird spoke to called off work to be there.
“Of course, we did,” said another fan, “It's mandatory.”
The FIFA Fan Festival will host two World Cup games today: Canada v Bosnia and Herzegovina at 12 p.m. and USA’s debut against Paraguay at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 for entry to the event.
