Law enforcement officials in Las Vegas offered praise for Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday, saying that he was extremely helpful in their investigation into a Cybertruck explosion outside Trump International Hotel.
The explosion injured seven people and left the driver of the vehicle dead, sparking investigations into whether or not the incident was an act of terror.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill offered praise for Musk and his assistance in the investigation.
“I have to thank Elon Musk specifically,” McMahill said. “He gave us quite a bit of additional information in regards to how the vehicle was locked after it exploded.”
He also provided the authorities with information about where the vehicle had come from through charging station data.
“He sent that directly to us, so I appreciate his help,” he added.
The Cybertruck had pulled in front of the hotel, owned by President-elect Donald Trump, just before 8:40 a.m. local time. Surveillance cameras outside of the hotel caught the shocking moment that the electric truck exploded in a fireball outside the revolving doors in the valet area.
Police are still working to identify the driver and it is believed to be an isolated incident, despite initial thoughts that it may be connected to the New Year’s Eve attack in New Orleans.
McMahill said that there is no evidence or indication that what happened in Las Vegas is connected to ISIS, which the New Orleans suspect is believed to have been affiliated with, according to videos obtained by the FBI.
As for the Cybertruck, Musk wrote on X that the vehicle wasn’t the best option for an attack, due to its structure.

“Cybertruck actually contained the explosion and directed the blast upwards. Not even the glass doors of the lobby were broken,” Musk wrote on X.
